Britain pledges to use Marshall Plan aid wisely
Bevin told the National Union of Mine Workers conference that Britain will use U S gifts under the Marshall plan wisely and austerity will continue to hand a free and up to date nation to children. Parliament approved about 1.2 billion dollars for Britain in the first year and France about 375 million.

Davenport museum director Bailey ends his life
John H. Bailey 239 director of the Davenport Public Museum hanged himself in the museum about midnight. Coroner Frank Keppy reported that a hangman’s knot was used and Bailey was found wearing a rubber swimming cap and a gas mask beside the book The Man Who Wouldn’t Hang.
