Dying Man Seeks Help on Main Highway Near Ripley
Raymond Porter Johnson a Warwood state liquor store employee died after a heart attack while flagging passing motorists on the main highway north of Ripley. Funeral operator Parsons recounted Johnson saying he suffered a heart attack, fell into mud, and that a woman taxi driver finally stopped to summon help. Dr James Kessel began treatment at the Kessel Clinic but Johnson died within minutes. He left a widow, two sons and two daughters. Johnson formerly worked as a mutual window clerk at Wheeling Downs.

Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Morgan was eating at No 2 station when the department car he admired caught fire. Firemen quickly extinguished the blaze, with car damage about 50 dollars. Morale damage to Morgan was noted as substantial.

Architect to lead Easter Seal drive in Kanawha County
Charleston architect Robert Ex Martens is named Kanawha County chairman of the one month Easter Seal campaign starting March 6. Harriman Dangles 60 Feet On Whiteface Mountain Lift
Gov Averell Harriman was stranded for over half an hour when a ski lift failed on Whiteface Mountain. The 66 year old governor, visiting to dedicate a new state ski center, hung about 1,000 feet up as the electric motor broke down. He joked through the delay, then completed the lift ride and skied down after repairs.
