Washington January 16 Members of the House Ways and Means Committee discussed a plan to push a pay as you go income tax act by March 15 by separating this feature from other tax measures and limiting hearings. Rep Knutson said the panel agreed on a pay as you go system though form undecided. Secretary Morgenthau urged early tax filing to avoid last minute jams, noting 8 million more returns this year. Taxpayers must file 1942 returns by March 15 and pay the first installment, regardless of new legislation.

High Court Orders Wysong To Give Way to Thomas

U S Forces Sink Axis Planes in Tunisia and Solomons
U S air units scored victories in Tunisia and the Solomons as War and Navy departments report 13 Axis aircraft destroyed in scattered actions. Seven American planes were lost in the Solomons and eight in Tunisia. In the Solomons three Japanese planes fell, while in Tunisia twenty three enemy bombers transports and fighters were wiped out.

Leroy Allebach, 62, Charleston attorney and business man, died at his home on MacCorkle Avenue just before 6 p.m. yesterday after a period of ill health. He served as assistant general counsel for New York Central Railway, chaired the Charleston Housing Authority, and held roles as stockholder or director in numerous local firms across baking, bottling, laundering, building, and hospital services. A native of New Bethlehem, Pa, he attended Clarion College Normal School Grove City College and the University of Michigan.

Airmen Without Planes Reap Revenge On Nip Raiders
Airmen of the 27th bombardment group in the Philippines fought with pistols rifles and ground guns when no planes were available. They improvised with three old transports at Neilson field and prepared for ground action. A few escaped to Australia where they later joined a raid against Japan and earned numerous decorations.
