The jurors were exposed to coverage deemed prejudicial and new jurors will be selected. Tweel faces about 234000 dollars in taxes for 1967 and 1969. two co defendants, Karl Huber and Edward J. Gedaleca, will face trials in other cities.
Patricia Hearst testifies that a government psychiatrist pressured her to hysteria and suggested she staged her kidnapping. The hearing, in San Francisco, focuses on whether Dr. Harry Kozol should be allowed to question Hearst again as part of a special court review.
Madison Boone County Sheriff John Proton reports dynamite thrown from a passing car damaged four businesses and three homes in the Pond Fork area early Wednesday. At Parkway Tavern a patron was cut, four windows broke and the foundation damaged. A second blast near Din Bess grocery in Van shattered a wall, broke windows, and scattered items. nearby homes and shops also sustained window damage and two cars were damaged.
About 180 employees from the Communications Workers of America walked out on a wage dispute. The strike involved secretaries, accountants, keypunch operators, computer programmers, and auditors mostly in Washington. CWA cites deficits and recession as causes while the Office and Professional Employees International Union seeks a contract wage reopener.
Thieves disabled an alarm and used torches to break into West Liberty State College, stealing 2500 dollars in cash and 114000 dollars in nonnegotiable checks from Main Hall. Officials noted no forced entry and likened the case to a 1975 campus theft. the college will have writers cancel and reissue checks.
