Marsh Outlines School Program for Coming Year

J Frank Marsh secretary of the state board of education summarizes West Virginia educational progress planned for the coming year. The West Virginia School Journal cites Ford’s biennial report to the legislature. Proposals include equalization of opportunities and taxes and a reorganized county system with a county board of education. The county plan favors a county superintendent and unified budgets, with salary adjustments to attract qualified leaders. Consideration is urged for county supervision in smaller counties and where districts cannot fund own supervision.

State May Establish Logan County Game Preserve

Officials of the State Banking and Dish commission announce plans to establish a state game preserve in Logan County embracing at least 6 009 acres of rugged land. The legislature next week will be asked to fund the project to reintroduce native wildlife and create a protected refuge. The plan follows actions by private sportsmen and federal forest creation in the eastern panhandle. A key offer by Huntington operator J W Jones to donate 5 000 acres near Henlawson and a federal proposal to supply pure deer are pivotal. Logan sportsmen also anticipate carloads of deer from western ranges to stock the preserve, plus introductions of wild turkey, pheasants, and other species once flourished in the area. The project aims to establish the first state game and fish preserve in the state, with deer currently absent in Logan County but thriving in Greenbrier, Webster, and Pocahontas counties under proper protection.
