A stormy hearing continues Friday before the Putnam County Board of Education over H C Graham a 28 year veteran science and mathematics teacher at Hurricane Junior High School accused by students and parents of tardiness and absence. California Fire Hundreds Flee Topanga Canyon

A wind driven blaze in the Santa Monica Mountains spread rapidly near Woodland Mills and toward Topanga Canyon. About 40 homes and cabins burned or damaged and 3 000 acres were blackened as fire crews and air support fought the flames. In Glenwood, at least 35 structures were razed and firemen said many homes remained in danger.

Bolden signals temporary stay to help Center

On Wednesday Bolden said he might remain in a temporary role for a month beyond February first or until a permanent manager is hired in February. He stressed he will not leave if it would hurt the Center. He has been one of the Civic’s most enthusiastic members.
