DELBARTON The United Mine Workers press demands on National Mines division of Highland Creek Coal Co to pay 120 miners their wages while on strike. Miners protested unsanitary water from five gallon cans instead of eight ounce bottles. They returned to work after 13 days off. Union backs them and seeks grievance committee resolution with health department backing to restore eight ounce containers.
George C. James II of St Albans paid 340 dollars for a shag carpet that fuzzed up and was promised repairs. W H Allen of Harris Chandler Drive paid 200 dollars for a top quality carpet that showed bare spots. Investigators report trouble tracing two former Land of Carpets owners Rodney Radford and Frank Sunderland. Warrants from Greenup Kentucky accuse Sunderland of a worthless check. Radford faces bad check charges and a fire alarm and armed robbery case involve Carl Hanshaw and Steven Moore.
Byrd said Nixon could shift funds within the federal budget to aid North Vietnam with or without congressional approval. He noted White House remarks suggesting money would be available regardless of approval, and warned Congress’s bilateral program chances looked poor.
Three people forfeited bond Thursday on gambling charges in Charleston Municipal Court. John W. Withrow Anderson Heights Paul Nesiler ette Lincoln Drive and Oral Hamon Seventh Avenue forfeited bond on gambling table operation. Betty Smith Lewis Street forfeited bond on illegal whisky possession and sale. Judge John Charnock fined Basil Spencer $77 on merged whisky charges.
Two Charleston area high school seniors receive 1500 each in the AEP System Educational Awards program. Sandra J. Lowther of Nitro High School and Donald W. Griffith of George Washington High School are both children of Appalachian Power Co. employees and are among seven Appalachian employer children honored this year.
Dr. J Lawrence Sippe 30 son of Mr and Mrs Joseph C Sippe of 327 Grove Ave was named to the ophthalmology department staff of The Nalle Clinic in Charlotte North Carolina this month.
