In Bellaire Ohio Hana Woh held for murder was spared death due to affection for stray dogs. The case involved Howell Jones foreman shot last November. The defense argued for life, citing Hafle spending his last penny on justice. Judge Marry ler accepted the plea and Hana will begin life imprisonment Monday.
Washington February 22 The $4.68 billion relief bill faced uncertainty as the Senate sent it back to the Appropriations Committee at Democratic leaders' request. Senator Byrnes declared the $4 billion works program for 3.5 million relief workers dead, criticizing the wage amendment amid a possible presidential veto. Other senators called the warning more rhetoric than fixed outcome as Adams remarks lead to page two.
Charleston observer C. C. In Trenton a report says Bruno Hauptmann asked for a spiritual adviser for the first time since arrest. Kimberling, chief keeper, granted the request. The prison chaplain has visited Hauptmann several times and under law a condemned convict may have two clergymen. Attorneys claim new evidence may lead to a new trial.
Provisions of the state liquor monopoly bill include selling only in sealed packages outside onsite consumption, a three member commission to operate state stores and warehouses, local option elections by petition, rental only of property, and potential state agencies to sell liquor. The bill, backed by the administration, moves toward March implementation with Gov. Kump expected to sign and appoint the commission. Nonintoxicating beer rule also discussed, with age restrictions possible.
A Bloomfield couple welcomed twin babies weighing about 17 and a third pounds combined. The mother measured 31 inches tall at birth and both twins were born Thursday. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Otla Soth.
In FALL RIVER MAss on Feb 23 Alyce McHenry ten undergoes x rays for a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Doctors Dr George E King and Dr Cornelius H Hawes say diagnosis confirmed from Omaha and Alyce will undergo operation next week by Dr Failomen Truesdale after a West Indian cruise.
Gov H G Kump indicated yesterday he will sign promptly the bill passed by the legislature providing for state monopl y on liquor sales and prohibiting sales by the drink after prohibition if repealed March 1. He said he has not seen the bill yet but believes it preserves the principles of local option and no return of the saloon. He expects to approve it promptly when engrossed and presented.
President Roosevelt and Congress paid homage to George Washington by visiting Mount Vernon where Roosevelt placed a wreath on Washingtons tomb. Senators and Representatives gathered to hear the annual reading of Washingtons farewell address, an 8 000 word message to Congress.
