Infant Dies in Two Car Crash on U S 119 Near Falling Rock

One year old Karen Sue Phillips died when she was thrown from her mother’s arms in a head on collision on U S Route 119 south of Falling Rock. Jesse Strickland 18 of Elkview was charged with manslaughter. The Phillips family of St Albans suffered multiple injuries with Kemp Phillips 25 and Joanne Phillips 26 admitted to area hospitals.

Wildcat Strike Halts Grant Town Coal Mine

An unauthorized strike idled West Virginia's Grant Town mine operated by Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates in Marion County. About 180 to 200 workers refused to cross the picket line and some who had entered the mine left, amid union claims the shift’s drilling and cutting crews were merged, causing furloughs. Voting Mix-Up To Be Argued In South Charleston

South Charleston City Council faces a split over two Democratic lists for poll workers ahead of the March 2 primary. The Democratic Executive Committee approved one list and a Saturday meeting adopted another to correct ineligible appointees who had filed candidacies. City Chairman Arnold K. Lee plans to push the original list with substitutions for Reed Shelton and Dorothy McMinn, arguing for ward by ward selection.

Twelve Injured In Crash Near Oak Hill

Twelve people including eight children were injured when a pickup and car collided on U S Route 21 about a mile north of Oak Hill. Mary Elizabeth Goens and several children were admitted with multiple fractures and internal injuries while the Ewing family members suffered serious injuries or minor ones. Police charged Charlie Goens with driving without a West Virginia license.
