A Pocahontas County site is favored for a National Science Foundation astronomy center with a proposed 3.5 million dollar initial appropriation to build a 140 foot radio telescope on a 3 300 acre tract near Arbovale. Eight Year Old Girl Killed Crossing Street in St Albans
Eight year old Ella Frances Burgess of Rt. 3 was struck by a car in front of the High lawn Theater on Grant Ave and died later at Thomas Memorial Hospital. Police said she darted into the street after alighting from a car driven by family friend E. G. Wallinder. The death car driven by C. A. Felkin was released without charge pending investigation.

Juvenile Seized In City Robbery
A 17 year old youth, recently released from the State Industrial School for Boys at Pruntytown, was arrested in connection with a citywide spree of burglaries. Detectives say he and two other teens targeted the Park Tire Co. and Charleston Tire Service on Washington Street East, with the Park Tire loss totaling 537.52 and the tire service entry costing 18. The teen taunted reporters during questioning, claiming cops should clean up crime in the area. The Park Tire theft was uncovered when workers arrived for shift.

Murder of 12 year old by Boone man shocks town
A 12 year old Laurel Creek boy was killed by a drink intoxicated neighbor near Boone. The shooter Edsel Thomas was arrested. the mother Mary Santonio Thomas is critically wounded along with two other children. Thurman Thomas, unrelated, received minor chest wounds. Investigators described multiple shotgun pellets and a near jugular injury. The incident prompted state police and Boone County authorities to take charge with ongoing inquiries.

Morgantown Area to Get 10 Million Dam and Lock
