Fire destroys Huntington business district in $500000 blaze
A historical Huntington fire leveled half a downtown block causing an estimated $500000 loss. Originating in a small clothing store on 10th Street near Fourth Avenue, the two story Miller Ritter building, home to four clothing stores and multiple offices, was razed. Four firefighters were injured but not seriously. Firefighters fought the blaze for four hours after dawn, with flames burning into the day. The Bradshaw Diehl department store and other neighboring buildings suffered heavy damage from smoke and water. The Miller Ritter building, built in 1911, was owned by Frederick Holding Co. and L Ritter.
