Kosygin and Wilson, amid a renewed U S bombing pause, held five hours of informal talks at Chequers seeking a Vietnam peace formula. Washington signaled bombing would resume unless Hanoi shows concrete gestures. The leaders aimed to keep in touch for new openings while public pressure mounted for a parley breakthrough.
Soviet and North Vietnamese officials signal a push for talks if the United States halts bombing and military action. The Trinh Burchett interview and Kosygin’s remarks frame a potential peace process with Pravda Izvestia and Izvestia commentary urging Washington to stop air strikes as a prerequisite for negotiations.
