Two Die and Two Hurt in Hastings Gas Blast
A leaking gas main exploded near Hastings killing two men and seriously injuring two others. The dead are 2 year old Charlee Brown and Ira Moore, 32. The injured, Lester Postlewaite, 38, and Joseph Wright, 4, were taken to New Martinsville hospital in critical condition. All four resided in Pine Grove. The four men were racing to control a leak in a 20 inch line from Hastings to Cleveland when the blast occurred. Brown and Moore died instantly. Postlewaite and Wright were badly burned but turned off a valve before hospitalization. The cause is undetermined. no fire followed. The Hastings plant is a major Hope Gas distribution center. Brown and Moore left widows. Moore leaves a widow and one son.
