City council approves a resolution for a free hospital site and financial aid. Mayor Dawson to appoint a non political general committee to act immediately and decide on funding. The site is part of Capitol Hit Park near the former hospital site. Committee will include medical civic welfare and business leaders and public officials to pursue a county wide project.
The Supreme Court upheld two major rulings involving Ford Motor Company and union activity. Ford must post Wagner Act compliance notices at Dearborn and Highland Park plants, while Chicago milk wagon drivers’ union picketing near stores selling cut-rate milk was restricted due to violence. The decision clarifies that peaceful picketing remains protected, but states may ban picketing when violence and property destruction occur.
The legislature moves to investigate the state hospital for Negro insane at Lakeland and the boys Industrial school at Pruntytown as part of a session plan. An interim committee proposed a three judge court for damage claims and tax changes. income tax rates rise on higher brackets, while a sales tax exemption covers bread, butter, eggs, sugar, and milk starting July 1.
A 10 year old Airedale named Laddie traveled 2000 miles to reunite with Everett Scott, who was called to army duty three months earlier from Chanute.
