The West Virginia Welfare Conference plans its three day meeting starting April 17 at Charleston House. Officials say workshops on social services health and related fields will be offered. Speakers include Frederick Delliquadri chief of the U S Children's Bureau and Dr John J MacQueen medical director of services for crippled children in Iowa.
St Albans police say 20 year old Danny Dixon of 4125 First Ave Nitro lost a leg after a Sunday shooting during a break in at Cory Auto Parts 1010 Sixth Ave. Dixon and his brother Gary 22 faced charges of breaking and entering. An officer fired after Dixon allegedly charged at a patrolman with a screwdriver.
Two teenagers charged with misdemeanors after a minor disturbance on Capitol Street. One faced petty larceny for allegedly stealing a $27 pair of shoes, the other disorderly conduct. The incident involved a few youths and was quickly broken up, according to juvenile officials.
