Five people died in Christmas holiday crashes across the state as traffic and bad weather brought fatalities. West Wood Connally, 50, a Chesapeake and Ohio conductor, died near Oak Hill after being struck by a car driven by John Pennington of Fayetteville. No charges were filed. Bishop, 50, of Red Sulphur Springs died from injuries after a collision on an icy hill near Northfork. Two others sustained serious eye injuries in McDowell county.

Five Kentuckians Injured in Crash Near Belle
Five Kentucky residents were injured, four seriously, when their auto crashed into a pole near Belle about 12:30 yesterday afternoon. They were en route to Beckley to visit relatives and were taken to Charleston General hospital. Named are Bertha Brock 35 with a fractured nose, Margaret Brock 15 with a broken leg and facial injuries, J R Brock with facial injuries, William Brock 18 with chest injuries, and Mary Estipp 80 with a broken nose and head lacerations. Mrs Estipp is from Lexington while the Brocks reside in Bowling Green. The car had been driven all night and William Brock, the driver, is believed to have fallen asleep.
