Pilot Son of Coal Family Dies in Raleigh County Crash
David Straus Blount Jr., 28, of Ameagle, a Raleigh Eagle Coal Co official and son of a coal family owner, died when his light Beechcraft Bonanza struck mountain power lines and slammed into an empty company house near Whitesville. The crash occurred while returning to Beckley Airport, with flames extinguished by coal company firemen. He is survived by his wife Betty and two daughters Gail and Lee. His body rests at Vail Mortuary.
