Japan rejoices as heir to the throne is born to Emperor Hirohito and Empress Nagako. The birth triggers nationwide celebrations, radio broadcasts, and prayers from Shinto shrines as preparations begin for the future 125th Mikado. Seven wet-nurses attended the newborn in a protected maternity cottage setting.
A Summersville area man, Griffith, 56, of Washington Street West, was crushed to death by a bundle of staves at the Clear Fork lumber company. He died almost instantly and his body was sent to Charleston for funeral arrangements. Griffith worked at Clear Park recently and is survived by his widow, three children, three sisters, and a brother. The body was taken to Bartment Funeral Home.

Near Dorothy in Raleigh County a husband killed his wife and shot himself after earlier taking their three children to relatives. Mrs Avil Perry died at home. Perry was wounded and rushed to Charleston General Hospital in serious condition. Authorities cited a family quarrel as the motive and said charges are deferred until the outcome of Perry’s injuries.

The Roosevelt administration sent 50 codes to the president for approval, lifting totals to 225 with earlier codes. A new code for electric utilities proposes voluntary adherence for publicly owned plants or terms for private plants. Washington dispatch reports farm leaders urged Congress to provide 400 million dollars to aid dairy and beef cattle farmers facing disaster. Huntington attorney and Democratic leader F Witcher McCullough is slated for state director of the National Recovery Council in West Virginia. As state chairman he would supervise NRA public works civil works and other New Deal activities and influence the national council. He has served on the PWA legal staff and previously ran for governor.
Buckets of food will be distributed to 350 of the city's 950 neediest families at the Salvation Army auditorium this morning. Despite 1,500 applications, kettles and shortfall limited distributions. Mayor DeVan to present first basket at 8 00. Salvation Army volunteers remain at kettles to raise funds for food and toys.
Pairmont December 33. Robert G. Miller, reserve for the National Bank of Pairmont, announced that Barry E. Watkins of this city was appointed attorney for the receiver of the bank. The appointment came after a Washington order on the recommendation of Senator M. M. Neely.
