Eight Die In State Accidents Over Weekend

A weekend toll of eight people died in West Virginia from fires and auto crashes. In McDowell County a frame house near Kimball burned killing Francis Watkins his daughter Frances and guest Clarence Roark, with four others injured. In Welch three family members were hurt while the wife and a daughter were seriously burned. A Huntington woman Mary Bates died from burns after a heater fire. Two women drowned in Logan County when a car plunged into the Guyan River near Man. Benjamin Hinkle Jr. of Tioga was killed in a head on crash near Cottle.

Fog delays grip Charleston area as world wakes to thick fog

Dense fog blanketed the valley for nearly 10 hours causing seven highway accidents. Ka Nawha Airport operations were hampered with about two dozen flights unable to land. City transit delays and bus schedules were also affected as visibility dropped to near zero.

Officers Endure 90 Minute Kidnap Ride in Collinsville

A Collinsville policeman and two private guards were disarmed by four men early today and forced into a patrol car for a 90 minute ride through city streets. Giofre and Cagnola were driven toward a hydroelectric plant where the gunmen demanded information. Giofre was struck and at one point they threatened to shoot if the officers did not comply, then released them and left.
