In 1980 Kanawha County approved a $20 million school project amid rising enrollment. Today fewer students remain, yet officials insist the plan remains necessary, labeled a critical failure by Snyder and prompting discussion to revisit the project details.
Charleston Housing Authority asks the City Council to approve a 7.2 million dollar plan to build 400 public housing units 100 for the elderly and 200 for low income families. If approved and funded by the federal housing administration the project would be the citys largest single housing deal.
Paris President de Gaulle used a 15 minute television radio address to frame his reelection bid around opposition to United States policy and NATO. He argued France must avoid subordination and avoid wars it does not want while maintaining alliance with friends.
U S Ambassador Arthur J Goldberg urged a world disarmament conference including China, saying the voice of reason can cut through the nuclear wilderness. He spoke at a White House session on international cooperation and urged Americans to back the United Nations for peaceful, global action.
