Russell Shafer age 12 of Coal Branch heights was electrocuted while touching a 220 volt live wire at the Pfaff and Smith Builders Supply sand tipple on Elk River. He remained in contact for 10 to 15 minutes until a mail carrier, Daniel Leach, freed him. Fire department rescue squad and funeral crews worked three hours but could not revive him. The body was taken to Bartlett funeral home awaiting arrangements. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shafer.
