An explosion at the Standard Oil refinery in Whiting Indiana destroys homes and towers, killing a three year old and a foreman, injuring 44 more, and forcing about 950 families to flee. Fire spreads through 30 tanks as authorities estimate damage between 10 and 100 million dollars.
