Ousted Fuel Gas rates denied by public service panel
The public service commission rejected increased gas rates sought by Ousted Fuel Gas company as unjust and unreasonable. It found pre April 1999 rates insufficient for a fair return, cancelled both, set a revised valuation near 12.2 million, and scheduled August 21 to consider future rate schedules for 57 WV municipalities including Charleston Huntington and Williamson. The commission retained a temporary 1929 increase until further order.

Kelly Elected Chairman of Kanawha Democratic Exec Committee

Federal aid roads funding boosts drought states
Washington Aug 16 Moving swiftly with its drought relief program the government allocated 121375000 in federal aid road money to the states hit by the drought. Funds will be paid after next July for highway construction and to advance emergency employment. Secretary Hyde announced the allocation and noted plans for a national organization to work with states. Governors urged immediate access to funds to provide employment.

Henry Belcher a truck dealer was shot and seriously wounded at his home on State street by his wife Goldie Belcher who was arrested. He was taken to Charleston General Hospital with a lung wound and back muscle injury. Police say domestic trouble and alleged drinking preceded the shooting. Patrolman Walter Cavender arrested Mrs. Belcher who stood nearby as her husband was placed in an ambulance.
