All Churches Plan Easter Services In City Suburbs

Charlestonians plan Easter observances across the city and suburbs. Sunrise services will be held at several churches, including an outdoor service organized by youth groups. Sacred Heart offers 10:30 a.m. mass with Gounod’s Missa Choralis and a chamber ensemble. Holy communion will be distributed in Catholic churches starting at 6:45 a.m. The Holy Land reports a deadly Easter week clash, with at least 19 dead as Arab terrorists and British troops clash near Jenin and Bassa ahead of Easter processions.

Post Office Site Appraisal Committee Named

A committee of Charleston businessmen appointed by the Treasury Department procurement division will appraise four proposed sites for a new 975000 post office. Postmaster Julius W. Singleton said the process, used to check bidder prices, selects one of the ten originally proposed sites. The four favored locations include sections on Washington Street Summers Laidley Capitol Street Dickinson Street and Kanawha Street with a value based appraisal due in two weeks.

Conscience prompts thief to return $709 diamond ring

PITTSBURGH April 16 A conscience stricken thief returned to Mrs. Charles P Conway today a $709 diamond ring stolen from her home last week. Conway found the ring attached to an envelope on the doorstep with her name but no message.
