Train wreck near Schodack Landing injures many
Ten cars and two Diesel units of a New York Central passenger express derailed on a curved track near Schodack Landing about 15 miles south of Albany. A rockslide cracked the line, with 35 believed injured as the eastbound portion plunged into Schodack Creek. A 16 year old Stonewall Jackson student was killed and another teen injured when their car on U S Route 21 north of Charleston left the road and hit a guard rail plunging into a ditch. James Fields died at Charleston General Hospital of chest and head injuries. Lock Haynes, 18, was treated for leg injuries and listed in fair condition. The car was destroyed and wheels remained on the guard rail.

Youth Confesses Using Romance to Enable Theft
An 18 year old ex Marine named Allen confessed to police that he used his girlfriend's trust to burglarize her family. He admitted stealing 67 in dimes from the girl's father and about $5.56 in cash plus a watch from her uncle Carl Bossie. He told officers he was discharged from the Marine Corps three months ago and gained entry with a key the girl showed him. A police court hearing is set for Monday.
