Details reveal a coordinated blaze after robbers drilled Dr Bly’s safe and looted Dr Big and a drug stock, with about 4009 dollars in notes and 28 dollars in cash taken. The explosion blew the safe door eight feet, and the robbers saturated both buildings with coal oil to start the flames, burning a storeroom and nearby structures.

In Des Moines a morning surprise arose as Mr John N Irwin rose to question privilege and moved to set up a committee to probe charges about the Houge Railroad Committee. Charley McClure a Greene Butler County clerk to the committee and Mr Wolfe chairman were implicated in a report on bill 8 F No 75. Elerick trusted the report during a brief absence but inquiries showed the committee was unaware of the bill’s consideration. The House allowed return of the bill to the Railroad Committee amid questions of truth and conduct. McClure is described as a troublesome figure with a poor record linking him to mischief and deceit.
Twelve rescued sailors from the Bahama recount escape after a hurricane tore through the wreck off St Johns Puerto Rico. Passengers include John Scott of Outerbridge Co New York and H J Fear of Savannah Ga with officers Williams Ross and others. Vessel carried 850 hogsheads of sablesons 100 hogsheds of sugar 1850 bags of coffee and burl 50 tons satinwood worth about 90000 to 100000 plus 6000 in specie. Only some were saved by Glenmorgan after engines failed and lifeboats flooded. The Bahama built Stockton England 1861 owned by Quebec and Gulf line.
