Attorney C G Phillips of Lawton Oklahoma Territory visits his daughters at Russell and recalls Chariton days. He helped found Lawton on August 6 1901 when no houses yet stood and notes the town grew to about 12000 with multiple newspapers and utilities. He opened the first law office in a tent and later the first substantial building. He recalls many saloons at opening week now dwindling. He praised the Patriot office after a friendly Tuesday call.

Accident in Poultry House Leaves Worker Wounded
Gay Tinel, an employee in Wilt & Doe’s poultry department, suffered a knife cut to his left cheek during a friendly scuffle with a co worker last Friday. The wound bled heavily but was sewn by a physician and he returned to work Monday.

David Simonton formerly of our city died January 21 1902 at his nephew L D Townsends home in Temple Texas He was 85 and leaves an aged wife His remains were brought to Clarinda Iowa for burial He was the adopted father of Mrs C T Haskins and Mrs T B Townsend remembered by older residents of Chariton

Brightwell Falls From Elevated Car In Chicago
Ora Brightwell, formerly of Washington township and now residing in Chicago after marrying Ollie Goodwin of Russell, fell 20 feet from an elevated railroad car to the street. He suffered a broken right ankle but no internal injuries. Mr and Mrs Brightwell planned to move Burlington to begin his new mail clerk job. The accident was unfortunate yet his youth and strength gave hope for a rapid recovery.
