Chariton social column lists Miss Myrtle Alter visiting Chariton from LaMoine and many visitors from Ottumwa Creston and Lucas. Families, such as Mrs Gertrude Johnson and Erle Lewis, host relatives. others plan trips to Ottumwa Wausau Denver and Cripple Creek. A grocery job change and a barber trade shift are noted among locals.
Miss Nellie and Lizzie Ogg of Indianola paused in Chariton between trains en route from Creston, sharing a brief visit with Mrs. Flossie Shular. Mrs. J. O. Becker traveled to Des Moines for the State R N A Convention, then to Valley Junction to see relatives. Miss Agness Hughes of Indianola planned a St Louis trip for spring millinery styles. Ora Sheller left for Carrollton Mo to visit relatives and seek Frankel's wholesale millinery. Terris Courter, Derby principal, spent weekend at home while sister Elsie Courter remained at Derby due to a possible typhoid threat.

A barn on the Norris farm about one mile from New Bern burned Sunday morning around 6 o clock. It is believed to have been set to theft chickens. One horse and farm implements were lost.
F L Hewett of Winfield recalls a winter 1898 99 bout with La Grippe cured by two bottles of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. He says the medicine stopped coughing and never left him troubled by Grippe again. Beriata's Cough Remedy is also noted as a reliable cold breaker and pneumonia shield.
