District Court Hears Murder Charge Against Mrs Brooks

Anna Mae Brooks bound over to the October term of district court in Chanute without bond on a first degree murder charge for the Sept 3 stabbing death of her husband Roscoe C Brooks at their home. Five state witnesses testified including a police chief and a lab supervisor.

City to inspect buildings for safety hazards in Chanute

Chanute city commission and Chamber of Commerce endorsing a plan to enforce repair or removal of buildings deemed health or fire hazards. A three member inspection team would report findings to the commission with voluntary owner repairs, or court action if needed. Community services include Halloween activities and Christmas decorations, plus lighting improvements on Main Street.

Four Months in Hospital Youth Is Dismissed

Gary Lee Price left the University of Kansas Medical Center to return home to Junction City four months after a trampoline accident paralyzed him. The former junior high football tackle walked with braces and forearm crutches and will continue therapy in Junction City. He suffered fractures of two vertebrae and a bruised spine May 11 during a flip on a trampoline.

Highway bids set for 21 Kansas projects in Salina Chanute

The Highway Commission announced bid openings on 21 projects in north central and southeast Kansas with meetings at Salina on October 13 and Chanute on October 25. The Salina bids cover Atlas missile base roads and K 141 re construction near Kanopolis Reservoir, plus a bypass around Ellsworth. Chanute projects involve county secondary road systems.

Escapees From Topeka School Caught Near Independence

Wichita business envoys visit Chanute on goodwill tour

Sixty nine Wichita business representatives arrived at Chanute Municipal Airport in 16 planes as part of a two day Airmada tour through ten Kansas Missouri and Oklahoma communities. The delegation toured Chanute by car and hosted refreshments at the Tioga Hotel praising Chanute as stable and growing and urging regional cooperation to attract industry and tourism.

Ike Arrives In Chicago For Campaign Stop

President Eisenhower arrived by jet at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago to speak in the 1960 campaign. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Elivera Doud, died in Denver during the night, prompting the scheduling change. He boarded a helicopter for a downtown Chicago appearance after news of the death.

Federal suit seeks to stop St. Joseph pollution of Missouri River

The federal government filed a suit in federal court to enjoin the city of St. Joseph Missouri from continuing to pollute the Missouri River with untreated sewage and other waste. Real Estate Board Formed by Neosho County Brokers

The Neosho County Board of Realtors was organized by county real estate brokers. Richard W.
