Chanute Fall Festival Parade Draws Thousands On Sunny Day
Thousands lined Main Street for the 17th annual Chanute Falls Festival parade. Eleven bands, 13 floats, 19 Scout units, three saddle clubs and many entries competed. A rocket float by Cub Pack No. 3 won $25. Rainbow Girls and St Patrick’s Brownies earned prizes. Boy Scouts and Brownies won marching unit prizes. After, 1,000 youths attended a free lunch. rain halted the team-pulling contest, with five teams sharing $200 prize among heavy loads. The Bank of Commerce awarded a Hereford heifer to a top 4 H member. The Counts provided music at the park dance to close the three day event.

Calf Kill Leads To Highway Collision Near Chanute
Highway patrol records show an early Sunday crash on highway K39 east of Chanute involving 1955 Chevrolet driver Herbert E. Matlock Jr. of Savonburg. Matlock struck a calf, with two other calves killed or crippled. owner K. D. Casper valued the herd at 400 to 500 pounds per animal and about 175 dollars total, while car damage reached 400 dollars. Extensive damage reported but no injuries in a two car crash at Beech and Plummer on Highway K39 around 6 10 p m Sunday. Reunion of Last Man's Club Counts 22 Members
