Two young escapees from Allen County jail in Iola Kansas, Lloyd Brewer 19 and Clarence Sanders 19, fled after shoving cleaning powder to guard Jailer Rolla Coleman. They hailed a deputy sheriff for a ride, rode back to the jail without handcuffs, and were recaptured minutes later after a passerby alerted the sheriff.

A man sought in the rape and beating of an 18 year old girl apparently killed himself by jumping into the Missouri River. David McCleveland Jr. 26, found in the river near Sugar Creek Missouri. Police investigated two minor traffic accidents Saturday. The first occurred on Main between Lincoln and Santa Fe tracks at 2 15 p m. Bernard V. Hansen, 16, died at the University of Kansas Medical Center from injuries after a Sept. 12 car crash near here. He was transported from Neosho Memorial Hospital to the Medical Center.
