Chanute JayCees Outline 19th Fall Festival Plans
The Chanute JayCees outlined plans for the 19th annual Fall Festival September 27 to 29. Activities include a Main Street street dance, a Memorial Building talent show, kid rides, a large parade with free lunch for paraders, team pulling contests for horses and ponies at City Park, and a closing dance. Prizes and premiums were adjusted to attract entries, with $150 purse for pony and horse pulls, and floats compete for $10 minimum with top prizes of 25 20 and 15. All events are free except the final dance. festival cost estimated at 2500 dollars with much funding from affiliated memberships and underwrites. A new feature is separate pony and horse pulls. Entries for the talent show receive a $5 gift certificate with no judging. Additional items include Road Rally next Sunday at 1:30 from Santa Fe Park and a District 8 meeting outcome.

Doctors Seek Signs of Nerve Reattachment Success
Boston doctors monitor 13 year old Everett Knowles Jr. after a May 23 arm severing. An 11 surgeon team performed a 6 1/2 hour operation at Massachusetts General Hospital to repair four major nerve trunks and reattach the limb. Blood circulation has been restored as nerves begin to reconnect.

Burglars Enter Midway School in Early Morning Break-In
Thieves pried into the Midway school vault and offices, taking about 12 dollars in coins and eating food from the kitchen, causing an estimated 150 dollars in damage. No other property was missing. The break-in occurred before 7:25 am, with a tear gas device left behind and later triggered by a cleaner. Sheriff Ron Klingenberg investigated the incident, the first school burglary in Wilson county that fall.

Suspended sentence for Kansas City teen in theft case
