Chanute Safari Jaycees to Sell Jelly Sunday Fundraiser

The Chanute Safari Jaycees host a Sunday jelly sale from 12 30 to 4 p m at the Safari West Community Room to raise 750 for the Kansas Jaycees Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Volunteers fund a dollar per jar with cold drinks supplied. proceeds support camping and respite services for cerebral palsy families through the Kansas Jaycees and United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas.

Tax bill expands credits and tightens shelters

The proposed tax revision preserves existing cuts through 1977 while increasing the minimum tax for individuals and corporations. It tightens shelters in real estate, farming, oil and gas, movies and other areas, expands child care and moving expense breaks, lowers estate and gift taxes over five years, raises the capital gains holding period to 12 months, allows $3,000 of capital losses to offset regular income by 1978, makes the 10 percent investment credit permanent, adds employer stock ownership credits, expands taxpayer rights, and permits Social Security numbers for tracing runaway fathers.

Governor Bennett to attend Neosho GOP fund raiser at Barr residence

Gov Robert Bennett will headline a Republican reception at 8 pm at 221 East 8th Street. St Paul GOP chairman Jim Carter said the event follows his Chanute speech on the Mexican Fiesta. Democrats Open New Headquarters in Neosho County

Neosho County Democrats have opened a new headquarters at 104 West Main. An open house will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served and most Democratic candidates will attend. The public is invited and volunteers may call 431-3980 or 431-3070 to help.

Federal forms drop loyalty questions on job applications

The Civil Service Commission announced that standard form 171 will no longer include questions 27 to 29 or any loyalty questions. The move ends the long running postwar practice begun in 1953 aimed at identifying Communist party members and sympathizers, seen as overbroad and infringing on association rights.
