Fiesta in Chanute marks 52nd Mexican celebration

Chanute area residents join the 52nd annual Mex ican Fiesta at Santa Fe Park with Gov. Robert Docking to crown Teresa Ortiz Humboldt as fiesta queen and Chanute mayor Burkman crowning Luci Negrete Parsons fiesta princess. Festivities start at 7 30 each night and include mass, talks, music, and a sidewalk bazaar. Local and Parsons groups perform, vendors offer Mexican foods, and campers from nearby towns are expected. The Chanute Mexican Fiesta Committee, Inc. runs the event with Esther Ortiz as president and a full slate of officers and volunteers assisting albums.
