A 19 month old Daniel Ray Koehn was struck and killed by a car as he wandered into a country road near his Ulysses Kansas home. Investigators say driver Lawrence Giesaking could not avoid the child. The boy was the son of Mr and Mrs Jake Koehn from a farm 13 miles northeast of Ulysses.
Weather bureau researchers expect to seed tropical storm Debbie with silver iodide next week if the disturbance comes within range. Debbie has winds up to 70 mph near the center and lies roughly 3,000 miles east southeast of Miami moving west at about 14 mph.
Defense sources announce about 40 000 regular Army troops will be sent to Europe in the near future with main strength to Germany to reinforce forces near West Berlin. Burlington Iowa faced a scare as a Civil Air Patrol plane without a pilot circled the city for an hour, then climbed and ran out of gas. It crashed in a bean field near Aledo Illinois after the engine surged. The pilot, Doren Bumgardner, escaped with a scraped side and was hospitalized.

Paris official sources say President De Gaulle escaped harm after a bizarre attack on a country road. A wall of flame ignited an inflammable mixture as the presidential car passed, but the eight pound plastic bomb failed to detonate. De Gaulle called it a joke in bad taste and shrugged off the incident.
