Santa Fe derailment blocks rail lines near Iola
Nine railroad cars derailed on a Santa Fe freight train en route from Iola to Chanute about 11 30 p.m. Friday four miles north of here, delaying Main Street crossing repairs. Trainmaster Lester Lawrence said cars carried cement, with no overturns, and damage limited to tracks. Crews worked through Sunday. work on the Main Street crossing is planned to begin Tuesday with 180 foot track sections to be laid, improving crossing smoothness.
