Neosho County Community Junior College and Unified District 413 study how President Nixon’s wage price freeze affects teachers before October 1. NCCJC notes February negotiated schedules, exemptions for pre August 15 master contracts, and possible AG opinion pending. Board discussions set for September 7.
The VFW Post 1654 private club license at 1654 W Main is suspended for 14 days beginning September 6 for allowing non members to use the club and to buy cereal malt beverages and for improper liquor pool operation. Cherryvale Aerie Lodge 2453 faces seven day suspension starting September 7 for non member use and liquor by the drink. Lawrence Glen Freeman liquor license is suspended five days starting September 13 for selling below minimum prices.
Representatives from 15 southeast Kansas towns are expected at a PRIDE program workshop at the Orchid Buffet. Dinner at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 1:15 p.m. meeting. The program is led by Kansas Gas & Electric, Kansas State University Extension Service, and the Kansas Economic Development Commission.

Federal Transport Secretary Volpe indicated Kansas should be penalized for not passing legislation banning billboard advertising along interstate routes. Gov. Docking argued to Volpe to remove Kansas from a list of states facing a 10 percent federal highway fund cut. The Volpe stance aimed at consistency across states.
The government announced that the presidential election will be held Oct. 3 with Nguyen Van Thieu as the sole candidate, dashing U.S. hopes for a multi candidate race after two days of talks with Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker.
George C. Moore announced his resignation as director of the Kansas Forestry Fish and Game Commission effective October 4 1971 after stating he faced pressure from the commission and threats of summary dismissal. Moore had led the agency for ten years.
A coroner's jury in Garnett Kansas ruled Pamela Lou Yulich died of gunshot wounds from a juvenile in a farm home near Lone Elm. The 19 year old Kansas City Kansas girl was shot through the heart with two additional bullet wounds. No charges were filed against the juvenile and officials released few details.
The Kansas Democratic Party says U.S. Senator Edmund S. Muskie of Maine will be the main speaker at a birthday celebration for Governor Robert Docking in Topeka on October 16. The fund raising event was announced by State Democratic Chairman Norbert Dreiling but ticket prices were not disclosed.
