Kenneth Becknel, one of 18 survivors, told a Coast Guard hearing the ferry George Prince cut its engines before the 664 foot tanker Frosta rammed it near New Orleans. He suggested past near misses and lack of engine stress may have contributed, noting warning whistles were not heard.
