Train Crashes Car Near Hutchinson Kills Two
In Hutchinson Kansas a Santa Fe Chief train at 80 mph struck a car west of the city killing Donald James Fulton 44 and Twila H Smith 48 both of Hutchinson. The car was split in two and burned one half with the woman’s body carried a mile by the train. Fire crews doused a grass blaze caused by wreckage as the Los Angeles to Chicago bound train halted.

Tankers Collide in Anchorage Harbor Fire
In Anchorage harbor two sea going tankers collided causing a large fire. One man, Eugene Hughes of Portland, Oregon, is listed missing from the crews, and two others were injured. The Santa Maria, an American registry vessel, was abandoned and burned to a red hot hulk.
