Hungarian refugee guilty of first degree robbery in Topeka
Andras Balczer, 26, a Hungarian refugee who fought in the Hungarian uprising, pleaded guilty to first degree robbery and was sentenced to 10 to 21 years in the state prison. He was charged with robbing a liquor store and kidnapping the clerk. the kidnapping count was dropped. Balczer fired at the clerk and dashboard, fled, took tranquilizers in custody, was committed to a hospital, and later released. A psychiatrist commission ruled him sane and able to stand trial.
