A World Series win sparked a massive downtown celebration in Pittsburgh that degenerated into looting, disorder, and public indecency. About 300 people were detained, with roughly 90 arrests and numerous hospital treatments.
Louisville youth delegates urged a friendlier church atmosphere and more honest dialogue as part of two hours of criticism at the Disciples of Christ biennial assembly. They urged action on peace values and questioned the church’s engagement with younger generations and overall under-30 representation. Kenneth Wilson pressed boards to increase under-30 participation from 2 percent toward 20 percent.
Mrs. Robert L. Carlson of 614 West Beech was accidentally shot in the left side by her son Roy, who found a .22 caliber pistol under a car seat as the family talked with a station manager after stopping at a service station. She is said to be not seriously hurt.
The Community Drug Abuse Committee will meet Tuesday night with Carl Haney a Kansas Department of Education consultant. The 36 member group includes 12 students 12 teachers and 12 community members. Starting Nov 1 four Monday night sessions will train the group and interested residents.

Washington AP reports the Eisenhower Theater opens tonight adding a third major hall to the Kennedy Center. President Nixon and Mrs. Nixon plan to attend the opening performance of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House alongside John Eisenhower and Julie Nixon Eisenhower in the presidential box. Mamie Eisenhower will be absent due to prior commitments.

A tornado struck Garden City and surrounding areas around 11 40 p m injuring at least ten people and damaging homes farms and several businesses. The storm followed a southwest to northeast path with heavy rainfall complicating damage assessment.
