Plane Crashes Into Missouri River Near Broadway Bridge
A small Cessna 172 with four aboard crashed into the Missouri River shortly after takeoff from Municipal Airport in a thunderstorm. One man, Alvin Satterly Jr., swam ashore and survived. three others feared dead. Pilot identified as J S Edell. victims included John Robert Cartwright and Richard E Gardner, all Kansas City residents. Leonard Sloan witnessed the crash and described the plane tipping and entering the water.

Two Atomic Subs In Collision
The US Navy reports Sargo and Barb, two nuclear submarines, collided while submerged during training about 15 miles west of Barber's Point on Oahu.
