Greek prosecutor seeks death for American in Ranney trial
Crown prosecutor Dimitrios Evgenios urged a seven man three woman jury to return a guilty verdict and to impose the death penalty on Roger Ranney a 26 year old American from Chanute Kansas. Ranney is on trial for premeditated murder of two Greek sailors during a cruise in the Aegean last November and faces additional charges including forging documents illegal firearms possession and scuttling a rented launch. He testified earlier that the two sailors were left ashore safely and that the contraband watches he agreed to haul contained narcotics. The defense promised an appeal if he is acquitted and complained of procedural irregularities.
