Birds May Have Caused Eastern Flight Crash
Gen Elwood R Quesada FAA chief says starlings likely caused the Eastern Airlines four engine crash that killed 61 after a takeoff from Boston Runway before plunging into the sea near Winthrop 100 to 200 dead birds found on the runway. Investigators found no structural fault and six more bodies were recovered as divers searched the sunken fuselage. Survivors were 11. the pilot Capt C W Fitts and copilot M J Calloway were among the recovered. The radio log ended at 5 33 p m before the accident.
