Kansan Attorney General Vern Miller displayed the 40 slot machines 13 gaming tables and about 3000 illegal punch cards seized from seven Great Bend private clubs and one Hoisington club after raids begun Saturday night. He said charges including transporting gambling devices and operating gambling equipment will be filed against many people, while no arrests were made at the time.

Two Serving Life Terms Escape Oklahoma Prison

Youngest inmate ever committed to the Oklahoma penescape from the training school in Stringtown. Oma Dixon Claunch Jr. and William Lanhart, both serving life terms for murder, fled after bed check at 4 a.m. Guards mounted a search with state police and local officers. Claunch, convicted at 14 in 1945 for killing a Kansas merchant seaman, and Lanhart, who pleaded guilty to an ambush slaying in 1963, escaped by tying bedding into ropes and climbing out a second floor window, authorities said. The forecast area remained mild with near zero precipitation through Tuesday.
