Star Sells Radio TV Stations in Kansas City
The Kansas City Star agrees to sell its radio and TV outlets WDAF and WDAF-TV to National Theaters Inc for 7.6 million dollars pending FCC approval. Body Found In Fire Ruins In Kansas City
In Kansas City a man's body was found amid fire ruins after a blast that destroyed two buildings at Eighth Street and Grand Avenue. Case Settled Out of Court In Midwest Refinery Fire
Erie report states a $17 520 judgment action by William W and Virginia L Mendenhall of Chanute against Mid America Refining Co was settled out of court. The suit claimed an underground fire and explosion from escaped gasoline affected a neighboring property and disrupted a motel business for six weeks. A second suit by George B and Audrey Gardner of Chanute seeking 7500 damages was carried over to the March term.

At a budget hearing in Topeka the future of the Atchison Children’s Home was discussed with a proposal to merge it with the Topeka Children’s Treatment Center. Both institutions have small populations and high per capita costs. Dr. George Jackson noted the Atchison home serves about 120 yearly. the center in Topeka houses about 25. He suggested studying a potential consolidation for recommendations to the 1959 Legislature. A 1959 budget of 430,207 was requested for the home compared with 417,802 this year and 351,915 recommended by the State Budget Division.
