Holiday Death Toll Mounting Over Nation

The nation records rising holiday fatalities during a four day Thanksgiving weekend with 164 traffic deaths since the count began at 6 p.m. Wednesday, 16 fire fatalities and 19 miscellaneous deaths. A RochestER New York truck car crash killed four, while a Times Tower fire in New York claimed two firefighters and a porter.

Two Killed On Turnpike Near Emporia Kansas

A two car crash on a Kansas turnpike killed Mark 8 and Kim 5. Don Frost 26 and Carl Logan 22 sustained minor injuries. The Mallory car struck the slower vehicle rear on a level road. McCandless and his child suffered severe injuries and were hospitalized.

Gerard Murray 21 was arraigned in Brooklyn on assaulting a policeman and malicious mischief after a Thanksgiving loot valued at 83 dollars. He reportedly tried to swallow ten and one dollar bills before a patrolman offered water as a chaser.

Bulldozer Backward Spree Wrecks Property In Wilmington

Four boys aged 9 to 11 climbed onto a stationary bulldozer on Thanksgiving. The machine toppled two buildings, tore a kitchen wall, damaged trees and cars, and dragged a car 150 feet before bystander Charles Boyer stopped it by pulling switches. Damage estimated near seven thousand five hundred dollars.

Holiday burglars raid Edmiston's and nearby Davis paint store causing about 6000 in merchandise loss. Thieves entered via roof from an unlocked window and left a 12 foot rope. a transistor radio and 125 suits plus a fur coat vanished. Rash of Accidents Here Over Holiday

A series of non-injury traffic accidents occurred here yesterday and Wednesday. Dennis Kennedy of 702 N Highland was arrested by Undersheriff Lester Marts on intoxication and two counts of leaving the scene, later released on 125 dollars bond. Kennedy’s car was linked to several collisions including a rear-end impact at Main and Lincoln and a parking-lot strike near Santa Fe railroad crossing. Officers identified Kennedy’s 1960 Ford convertible as the offending vehicle in multiple incidents. Damages ranged from minor to about 100 dollars in various crashes including Main Street and South Kansas locations.

Officer's Car Stolen While Issuing Ticket in Goodland

Goodland police officer Keith Nagel had his car stolen while he stepped away from the running vehicle to write a traffic ticket. The car was found abandoned about two hours later on a nearby residential street.

Freak Crash At Farm Home Injures Erie Woman

Rural Erie Kansas woman Mrs. Jesse Lowmaster aged 48 suffered cuts bruises and shock in a freak pickup truck crash at her home. The accident occurred about 11 45 a m as the Lowmasters were returning from a shopping trip when a bag of potatoes slid off the seat distracting the driver and the vehicle struck a hedge tree, throwing Mrs Lowmaster into the windshield. She was treated by a local physician and admitted to Labette County Medical Center at Parsons. The 1961 Chevrolet pickup sustained extensive damage. The Lowmasters reside two miles west and half a mile south of the junction of US 59 and K57, south of Erie.

Trapeze Artist Hurt In 10 Foot Ringling Fall

In Pittsburgh a 27 year old trapeze performer, Maria Dos Santos, fainted while lowering from a rope after her act at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. She suffered a painful elbow and shoulder injury and was hospitalized for X rays.

Fitch Faces Felony Charge In Neosho County Case

Undersheriff Lester Marts left for Champaign Illinois to extradite 23 year old Mike Fitch to Neosho County for prosecution on a felony charge. County Attorney Richard L Ahs levy says Fitch took a minor girl from her home without parental consent for concubinage. Conviction could bring up to five years in prison. Fitch recently resided locally. police report his home is Washougal Washington.
