Fatal One Car Crash Near Bennington Kansas
Jim Anderson 30 manager of the Russell County Cooperative Assn died in a one car accident at the K18 and U.S. 81 junction south of Bennington Ottawa County. Car left KI8 and plunged down an embankment according to the Highway Patrol.

Five More Teenagers Implicated In Thefts In Chanute
Five more Chanute teenagers have been implicated in recent thefts from parked cars raising the total involved to at least 18. Fire damages Allen home in Chanute attic blaze
The residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert N. Allen at 201 S. Larson was heavily damaged when a torch used during a water pipe installation ignited insulating material in the attic. Firefighters fought the blaze about two hours, damaging roof sections wiring and furnishings. Overnight the Allens stayed with relatives as temporary housing was arranged.

Union Rejects Basic Steel Offer After Bargaining
The United Steelworkers Union rejected a new contract proposal from Basic Steel, saying the latest offer is virtually unchanged from the Oct. 17 proposal. The union values the three year wage rise at about 24 cents per hour, with pension improvements worth less than a third of a cent, while the industry estimates 30 cents per hour over three years and 29.4 cents for the Oct. 17 offer. Prison Terms for Hamilton and Castleberry in County Court
