Safari museum remodeling sparks crowds and new Johnson collection
More than 200 people attended the Safari Museum’s annual membership celebration and grand opening of the redecorated Johnson collection on Tuesday. Barbara Henshall notes members previewed Monday night and the museum opened to the public free of charge Tuesday. Memberships range from 5 dollars to 100 dollars with ongoing drives. The Johnson collection on the first floor, Johnson Memorial Hall of African Culture on the second floor, and an art gift shop are open daily with African pieces available year round.

Two Chanute youths plead guilty to marijuana charges
John Schmeltz aged 19 pleaded guilty in Chanute City Court to a misdemeanor possession of marijuana and was fined 150 dollars. He was among ten arrested in a police raid and later pleaded not guilty in City Court. His trial is set for 1:30 p.m. November 29. Ronald Courter, 19, also pleaded guilty to the same misdemeanor and was fined 150 dollars.

Condemned killer Gilmore and fiancée attempt death by own action

Teenager Plans Funeral As Part Of Juvenile Probation
In Great Bend a 17 year old youth labeled dead by Juvenile Court Judge William Laughlin was placed on probation after a September accident linked to driving while intoxicated. He was required to plan his own funeral and write his obituary listing survivors and inquire about burial costs.
