Four Clutter Family Victims Found Shot In Kansas Home
Four members of the Clutter family were killed in their Garden City area farm home. Herbert Clutter 48 Bonnie 45 Nancy Mae 16 and Kenyon 15 were bound gagged and shot. Death timed between 11 p m Saturday and 2 a m Sunday. The scene showed no robbery or struggle. Nancy and Nancy’s classmate Mary Ewart and Susan Kidwell discovered the bodies after a Sunday ride. Clutter was a notable agricultural leader and public servant with ties to several farm organizations. The case remained under investigation.

About 1 700 to 2 000 pancakes bacon and coffee were served as Kiwanis hosted Pancake Day in Chanute s Mason ic Temple. Rosenthal says brisk business opened at 5 am and 120 seated at peak. Donations from local firms aided underprivileged children fund while receipts await accounting. Co chairs were Don Beach and Louis Gerken. Three hundred patients at Winter General Veterans Hospital in Topeka were entertained by Chanute students and American Legion members with a variety show.

Youth Is Critical After Gun Accident Near Linwood
A 16 year old, Marvin Carter, was listed in critical condition at a Leavenworth hospital after a gun accident on Sunday at his farm home near Linwood. Pfe Orval Henry, 19, of Ft. Riley, was loading a 45 caliber revolver when it discharged, striking Carter in the chest as he sat in a parked car. Henry, on a three day pass, is part of Co. A, 12th Infantry Regiment.
